Reliable power supply on the Gotthard train

Customized DC/DC converter

Stadler has been building rail vehicles for over 75 years and today employs around 12‘000 people who work in several production and engineering plants as well distribute it to its over 40 service centers. The company‘s products are characterized by cutting-edge technology, economical operation and comfort for passengers.

Stadler offers a comprehensive range of products for rail and city transport, such as high-speed, intercity and regional trains as well as trams and subways. In addition, the company builds varied wagons, tailor-made locomotives and is the world‘s leading manufacturer of rack railways.

DC/DC converters in rail vehicles ensure the supply of low-voltage power to functions as train protection, catenary devices, radio systems, passenger information systems, door controls and much more.

The EC250 multiple units, which are called “Giruno” by SBB, run through the Gotthard Base Tunnel and connect Zurich with Milan and later Frankfurt and Milan in record time. Redundant and flat converters were required for these trains, which, among other things, are installed in areas that are difficult to access and must meet the highest standards of reliability.

On the basis of standard DC/DC converters, Elma has developed scalable power supply units with an output of up to 900 W. The devices meet all requirements according to EN50155 and EN4555-2 and provide full performance over the entire temperature range from -40 ° C to 70 ° C without a fan.
