The COM Express® specification defines a family of Small Form Factor (SFF) and Computer On Module (COM) sizes single board computers for a wide range of commercial and mil/aero applications. It is designed to accommodate the latest chip sets and serial signaling protocols, including PCI Express Gen 3, 10GbE, SATA, USB 3.0, and high-resolution video interfaces.
The modular design of COM Express not only provides the highest performance of the many small form factor standards, but also a choice of sizes. A COM Express processor board is designed to be a mezzanine that plugs onto a carrier board, which is populated the user’s application specific I/O. This makes it easier to upgrade the CPU without having to layout the entire board again.
Elma creates rugged carrier cards to support the latest Type 6 and Type 7 CPU modules available from our partners. Along with our line of MIL-STD small form factor power supplies and extensive packaging options, Elma works with customers to provide complete COM Express platforms for applications which require rugged protection.
New COM extensions and standards are being added to the family of PICMG specifications.
